Рыдаю.

A lawsuit filed Monday (Sept. 14) alleges that Twitter is intercepting, reading and sometimes even altering direct messages sent between users.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the class action lawsuit, filed in federal court in San Francisco, claims that “Twitter surreptitiously eavesdrops on its users’ private Direct Message communications. As soon as a user sends a Direct Message, Twitter intercepts, reads, and, at times, even alters the message.”
A New York Times link is used as an example, where Twitter modifies the full URL into a customized shortened link while www.nytimes.com is still displayed to its users. The change is due to a Twitter algorithm that allegedly benefits Twitter by demonstrating to the New York Times or other sites where the source of traffic comes from, which the lawsuit alleges allows Twitter to charge better advertising rates.
The lawsuit has been filed as a violation of the Electronic Communications Privacy Act and California’s privacy law. It is similar to one brought against Google in 2013 asserting that Google searching emails for keywords in order to provide customized advertising to its gmail users was a violation of the ECPA because it did not fall under the “ordinary course of business” practices.

Рыдаю в голос. Вы мне еще скажите, что когда я отправляю обычной почтой открытки без конверта, их почтальоны могут прочесть?!! Пойду выпью валерьянки.
Но самое прекрасное вот что:

The Twitter lawsuit is asking for damages for every user who has ever received a direct message and every user who has ever sent a direct message, in the amount of $100 per day for each user whose privacy was violated.

Прямо думаю, может, и правда оскорбиться, а то выгодно ж!
